HISTORICAL HEARTH COOKS DEMONSTRATION “ONIONS” Planting gardens in the backcountry during the late 18th century was very important, as what was planted. Vegetables that could be saved during the winter months were planted and stored for food in the winter. One of the frequently planted but often overlooked vegetable is the onion.
