Info: On May 21st, 1865, a US Army chaplain announced to the congregation of the Afro-Moravian Church that they and the other enslaved residents of the state were now free. Old Salem invites you to join us in celebrating “Freedom Day”, as this joyous occasion came to be known, on Saturday, May 23rd. Ticketed visitors can learn more about the African American experience in Salem through guided walking tours at 11am and 2pm, highlighted stories throughout the district, and a special hands-on demon
