This lecture covers the origin and evolution of the Snake River Plain with emphasis on tectonic and volcanic events. The Snake River Plain has long been recognized as an enigmatic feature with global geologic significance. It is also noted as one of the most important volcanic provinces on earth. Recent research shows the Snake River Plain was at least partly, if not entirely, caused by the Yellowstone hotspot. This lecture is presented by Dr. Terry S. Maley. Dr. Maley has B.S. and M.S. degrees
