In honor of International Boxing Day \(August 27\) historian Mark Shubert traces the roots of the sport in America giving examples from the colonial period through the early twentieth century, when in the 1930s Jim Crow South, a boxer in Jackson Ward named Edward "Wildcat" Thomas became the "Pride of 2nd Street". Presented in partnership with the History Division of Henrico Recreation & Parks. Image is a photo of Edward "Wildcat" Thomas given by the artist Leslie Garland Bolling to Carl Van Vech
