Together, guests will close read James Baldwin's 1955 essay "Stranger in the Village" alongside Nikki Giovanni's poems "Nikki-Rosa," "Allowables," "For Saundra," and "Ego Tripping \(there may be a reason why\)". By placing Baldwin and Giovanni in dialogue with one another, guests will explore themes of identity, belonging, Blackness, memory, race, and the enduring power of language to name, challenge, and reimagine the world.
